Entrepreneurs with the X-factor
Late last month, the entrepreneur community saw four of its own being honoured at the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) 2011 awards gala dinner.
Held at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, the awards ceremony named Richard Eu, group CEO of Eu Yan Sang International, the Entrepreneur Of The Year in traditional healthcare category, while Derek Goh, executive chairman of Serial System, won the equivalent honours in the electronic components distribution category. Wee Tiong (S) Pte Ltd’s Tan Wee Beng won the award in the emerging category, while Tung Lok Restaurants (2000) Ltd’s Andrew Tjoe was the winning pick in the lifestyle category.
The star of the evening was Eu Yan Sang’s Mr Eu, who was singled out for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2011 Singapore award He will go on to represent Singapore at the annual Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) award in Monte Carlo next year. There, the ante will be raised as he will take on contenders from more than 50 countries. Last year, Olivia Lum of Hyflux became both the first woman and Singaporean to win the international title, when she was named Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year 2011. “Our last EOY Singapore winner Olivia Lum’s recent achievement at the World EOY is a momentous milestone. It capped a stunning 10 years of celebrating entrepreneurship in Singapore,” said Max Loh, country managing partner at Ernst & Young LLP.
